APSU Sports Information
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team was held scoreless on six hits, Wednesday at Cheryl Holt Field, as Middle Tennessee came away with a 6-0 victory, in the final non-conference matchup before opening Ohio Valley Conference play.
Austin Peay would threaten to tie the game in the bottom of the first, when Kacy Acree would reach on an infield single and move into scoring position by stealing second, with two outs, but was stranded as the Blue Raiders (14-12) got the final out of the inning.
They would threaten again in the bottom of the third, with Chandler Groves reached on a fielder’s choice and moved to third base on a two-out double by Acree.
Acree led the Govs with two hits.
But Middle Tennessee starter Kelci Cheney (10-6) got Danielle Liermann to ground out to get out of the inning.
The game would remain a 1-0 contest until the top of the sixth inning, when Middle Tennessee scored five runs on five hits and two APSU errors to blow the game open.
Austin Peay is off until this weekend when it opens OVC play at SIU Edwardsville.
