Sevierville, TN – Coming off its best performance this season, Austin Peay State University men’s golf team hopes to build off that momentum when it plays in the Fourth Annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, being held, Sunday-Tuesday, at the Sevierville Golf Club River Course.
This is Austin Peay’s first time to play in the event named after the late Tennessee Tech golf coach and former pro golfer.
In addition, Evansville, Oakland, Samford, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, Wright State and Carson Newman also will be competing. The par-72 course will be played at three different lengths, getting shorter each day. It will play at 6,972 yards, Sunday; 6,888 yards, Monday and 6,822 yards, Tuesday. Sunday;
The Governors are coming off a fourth-place finish last weekend at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, their first Top 5 finish this season. Chris Baker finished ninth in in the event while fellow Austin Kramer was 13th.
Baker, Kramer and fellow senior Tyler Phillips again will lead the Govs while junior Erik Hedberg and sophomore Justin Arens will round out the starting five. Freshman Sean Butscher will play as an individual.
“I believe we built up some good momentum after Pinehurst,” APSU coach Robbie Wilson. “Although we didn’t win, we played well tee to green and that’s been one of our biggest struggles this year. If we can be confident on and around the greens I think we will have a very good week.
The par 5’s at Sevierville are the part of the course we need to score well on and I think that this team has the length to make many birdies on them.”
