Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Transit System began the new Route 1000 Industrial Park on Monday, April 4th, 2016. The route’s initial day was a success with riders traveling from the St. Bethlehem Wal-Mart and to various stops along Alfred Thune Road.
According to Arthur Bing, Director of Transportation, most of the riders were going to the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center, Agero and Hankook.
“As we were making the thirty minute trip today, it occurred to me that employees who work in the many business on Alfred Thune Road and Clarksville visitors who may not have their own transportation would find this option incredibly helpful. With pick-ups at the Hilton Garden Inn and the easy transfer at the nearby Wal-Mart, you can get virtually anywhere in Clarksville beginning with this route,” stated Mayor McMillan.
Mr. Bing also pointed out that the route is free through June 30th, 2016. “For people who want to leave the driving to us, an all-day pass can be purchased for $4.00 which will allow riders to take any bus and any transfer anywhere in our system, including this route. That’s a lot more economical than paying for gas, parking and wear and tear on a car. And for people who just want to try this route, they can do so from now until June 30th at no cost.”
In order to expand services to new areas, there must be a proven ridership. “As demand for the service grows from other parts of the Industrial Park, we will continue to expand this route,” said Mr. Bing. “There are minimum thresholds we have to meet but we are continuously assessing the demands for public transportation so we can provide the services Clarksville needs.
