Nashville Sounds fall 6-2 at Oklahoma City Dodgers

Nashville Wins Rain-Shortened Series

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK – A three-run first inning was enough for the Oklahoma City Dodgers in a 6-2 win over the Nashville Sounds Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The win allowed the Dodgers to salvage one game from the Sounds in the rain-shortened three-game series. The series win is the first for Nashville who lost their opening series of the season, and split the second.

The first four batters for Oklahoma City reached against Sounds’ starter Chris Smith in the first. Rob Segedin plated the first run when he sent a bases loaded base hit into center field to make it 1-0.

James Ramsey got Oklahoma City its second run on a fielder’s choice, narrowly beating the throw to first from Joey Wendle on what could have been an inning-ending double play.

With runners at the corners and two outs, Ramsey broke early from first. As soon as Sounds catcher Bruce Maxwell fired to second, Austin Barnes broke from third and stole home to make it 3-0.

Oklahoma City tacked on a run in the second before Nashville got on the board in the top of the third. A single by Chad Pinder sparked a two-out rally for Jake Smolinski who lined a double to the gap in right-center to score Pinder all the way from first.

An infield single and an error by Renato Nunez came back to bite Nashville in the home half of the third. The Dodgers plated a pair to push their lead back up to five at 6-1.

Matt Olson’s sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 6-2 in the sixth, but that’s as close as they would get.

It wasn’t for lack of opportunities as the Sounds pounded out 12 hits in the loss. However, they went just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position compared to Oklahoma City’s 4-for-17.

Pinder led the charge with his first three-hit game of the season while Smolinski, Maxwell and Max Muncy had two hits apiece.

Zach Lee got the win for Oklahoma City and improved his record to a league-best 3-0. Smith was charged with the loss and dropped to 0-2 on the season.

The Sounds head to Colorado Springs for a four-game series set to begin Tuesday night. Right-hander Jesse Hahn (0-0, 0.00) starts for Nashville against right-hander Junior Guerra (0-1, 2.08) for Colorado Springs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35pm.

The 2016 season is the Sounds’ 19th year in the Pacific Coast League and their second as the Oakland Athletics’ top affiliate. Season ticket memberships are available now by calling 615.690.4487 or by visiting www.nashvillesounds.com
