Austin Peay State University Softball drops doubleheader to Jacksonville State, Saturday

APSU Softball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team had its seventh-inning rally come up short versus Ohio Valley Conference leading Jacksonville State, Saturday at Cheryl Holt Field, as the Lady Govs fell 4-1 in Game 1 and 5-1 in Game 2.

The Govs (6-33, 2-19 OVC) trailed the Gamecocks 4-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Kacy Acree opened the inning with a double and moved to third base an out later on a single by Sidney Hooper.

Nashville Sounds lose 7-4 to New Orleans Zephyrs at First Tennessee Park

 

Rangel Ravelo extends hitting streak to 11 games in loss

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds faltered in the first sellout of the year at First Tennessee Park as they dropped a 7-4 decision to the New Orleans Zephyrs Saturday night in front of 10,413 fans.

Trouble found Sounds’ starter Chris Smith in the third when New Orleans scored four runs to break the game open. Xavier Scruggs’ single past a diving Renato Nunez scored Kenny Wilson as the ball trickled down the left field line.

Later in the inning, Zephyrs right fielder Destin Hood launched a 1-1 breaking ball over the center field wall for a three-run home run.

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Right fielder Chase Hamilton homered for the third consecutive game and left fielder Logan Gray supplied two RBI as Austin Peay State University’s baseball team held on for a 4-3 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Eastern Kentucky, Saturday at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay (24-13, 14-6 OVC) saw its offense limited to a season-low five hits, but it was highly efficient with three of those hits supplying runs in the victory.

Rivers and Spires Festival Sets New Attendance Record this year

 

Clarksville Rivers and Spires FestivalClarksville, TN – The 2016 Rivers and Spires Festival shattered previous attendance records, bringing over 49,000 people into downtown Clarksville over the April 14th-16th weekend. This year’s event was the largest Rivers and Spires to date with the 2010 Festival previously holding the record at 42,073 when the Charlie Daniels Band performed.

“The Festival definitely did what it was supposed to do; bring people downtown, promote the community and offer free family entertainment for all ages. We are very pleased with how the event went this year,” said Theresa Harrington, Executive Director of Visit Clarksville.

APSU Governors athletics teams continue NCAA APR improvement

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Ten of Austin Peay State University’s 14 intercollegiate athletic teams improved or posted a perfect score in the most recent release NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate, Wednesday.

Last week, the NCAA released its public recognition awards which are presented annually to those programs that post the top marks in their respective sport-groups. Austin Peay saw its women’s cross country, women’s golf and women’s volleyball teams recognized as each scored a perfect 1000 Academic Progress Rate.

Tennessee Titans will host 2nd annual High School Football Recruiting Fair at Nissan Stadium, Tuesday

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans and the Tennessee Football Coaches Association will host their 2nd Annual High School Football Recruiting Fair in the West Club at Nissan Stadium on Tuesday, April 26th from 8:00am – 12:30pm.

More than 90 high schools across Tennessee are currently scheduled to attend, drawing representatives from more than 40 NCAA and NAIA schools across 15 states.

APSU Women's Track and Field - Austin Peay State UniversitySpringfield, MO – Austin Peay State University track and field team may not have come out on top in Friday’s tri-meet at the Missouri State Invitational, but the Governors have several strong performances to hang their hats on as the regular season enters its final turn.

Seven season-best marks fell for Austin Peay at Allison South Stadium, including a pair marks that moved Austin Peay way up in the Ohio Valley Conference season bests lists.
