Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for June 19th, 2016

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Rally on the Cumberland, Clarksville Downtown Market and Fun with Fido.

Rally on the Cumberland Registration

Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Rally on the Cumberland set for July 16th

Rally on the Cumberland is back for its fourth year and registration is underway! Clarksville Parks and Recreation will host the Canoe and Kayak Race on July 16th at Liberty Park, however participants must register by July 8th to compete.

The race will be held in heats beginning at 8:00am at the Montgomery County Conservation Club, located at 1182 Seven Mile Ferry Road, and finishing near Freedom Point in Liberty Park.

Canoe and kayak drop-off is Friday evening, July 15th, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Conservation Club.

Registered participants must arrive by 6:45am on race day to be checked-in and transported from Liberty Park to the Conservation Club to begin the race.

Registration is available online at www.cityofclarksville.com/parksrec. Cost is $10.00 per paddler, ages 13-17 and $20 per adult, ages 18 and up.

Race categories include:

  • Youth ages 13-17
  • Beginner: 1 person
  • Beginner: 2 people
  • Intermediate: 1 person
  • Intermediate: 2 people
  • Advanced: 1 person
  • Advanced: 2 people

Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak.  Boats may be rented from Blueway Adventures, LLC (931.320.8466) or Run-A-Muck Outfitters (931.551.6606) prior to completing registration for the race.

The Clarksville Downtown Market features approximately 70 vendors on hand. They offer local fresh produce, baked goods, local honey, milk, home décor, seasonal flowers and more. It is open from 8:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday through October 8th, 2016 on the Public Square in the City Hall Parking Lot.

A community?favorite and shopping destination, the Clarksville Downtown Market on Public Square offers a variety of events.

Festivities are free of charge and diverse, offering something for visitors of all ages looking to have a great time at one of Clarksville’s most treasured gathering places.

Upcoming Events

Christmas in July ? Saturday, July 23rd: Get a head start on your holiday shopping as the North Pole invades the Market. Not only will the Market be decked out in Christmas décor, but vendors will be selling Christmas items, too.

Market Scavenger Hunt ? Saturday, September 24th: Explore the Market and get to know more about our vendors and their business by participating in our scavenger hunt. Stay tuned to our Facebook page to find what prizes will be up for grabs!

Dog Day ? Saturday, October 1st: The market has gone to the dogs! Bring your four-legged family member for a day of shopping, crafts, giveaways and more.

Fun with Fido

Clarksville Parks and Recreation - Fun with Fido

Clarksville Parks and Recreation is excited to host Fun with Fido, a free event series for you and your four-legged family member.

The season will kick off at Heritage Park Bark Park, located at 1241 Peacher’s Mill Road, Saturday, June 25th. Join us from 1:00pm to 3:00pm for a tail-waggin’ good time of contests, prizes and dog-related vendors.

The series includes events at King’s Run Bark Park at Liberty Park on September 24th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and the final event of the series at the Clarksville Downtown Market on October 1st from 8:00am to 1:00pm.
