Nashville Sounds roll over Omaha Storm Chasers 12-5

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds slugged three homers and ran away with a 12-5 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers in front of 5,204 fans Monday night at First Tennessee Park.

Backed by two five-run innings, the Sounds (57-46) used the win in the finale to grab the series by taking three of four from Omaha (44-57). Coupled with Memphis’ loss, the Sounds lead the American Southern Division by seven games with 41 to play in the regular season.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Rangel Ravelo started the hit barrage when he launched his sixth home run of the season out to left field.

TBI casework yields Indictment, Murder Charge in Hardin County Investigation

 

Tennessee Bureau of InvestigationJackson, TN – Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained an indictment for a Selmer man accused in connection to the homicide of a Shiloh man earlier this year.

At the request of 24th District Attorney General Matthew Stowe, TBI Agents began investigating the death of Sidney Layne Burks on May 5th, a day after authorities from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department found the body of the 55-year-old in his Pratt Lane home.

This will be the 17th meeting between the schools in a series that dates back to 1947; the last meeting between the Governors and Trojans came in 2002.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball announces Non-Conference Schedule

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Notre Dame, Baylor, Texas and Stanford headline a stout non-conference Tennessee women’s basketball schedule that was released on Monday by fifth-year Lady Vol Head Coach Holly Warlick (108-34, .761).

Tip times and television network assignments will be available at a later date when that information is approved for release.

UT, which returns four starters from a team that finished 22-14 and rallied for the program’s fourth NCAA Elite Eight appearance in five seasons, is ranked No. 11 in Charlie Creme’s ESPN.com “Way-Too-Early Preseason top 25”. The Lady Vols welcome back their top scorer in redshirt junior guard Diamond DeShields (14.3 ppg.) and top rebounder in redshirt junior center Mercedes Russell (8.3 rpg.).

APSU Women's Volleyball - Austin Peay State UniversityLexington, KY – For a fourth consecutive year, Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) volleyball team has received the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Awards, Monday.

A record 762 programs at all levels were recognized for their academic accomplishments during the 2015-16 academic year. That total included 131 Division I women’s volleyball programs.
