TBI charges Clarksville Man for Shooting Incident in Hickman County

Tennessee Bureau of InvestigationNashville, TN – An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation of an officer-involved shooting in Hickman County Tuesday night has resulted in the arrest of two men.

At the request of 21st District Attorney General Kim Helper, TBI Special Agents began investigating an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred just before midnight in Centerville.

During the course of the investigation, Agents learned an officer with the Centerville Police Department had initiated a traffic stop on Highway 100.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, and led police officers and a deputy with the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle wrecked in a wooded area behind a pawn shop near 1200 Highway 100. The initial investigation indicates one subject in the vehicle fired at the deputy, and the deputy returned fire. No one was struck.

The two subjects ran into the woods. The investigation revealed one of the subjects, William Dennis Leidecker, 19, was found early Wednesday morning by a homeowner in a neighbor near the crash site, and was taken into custody. The other individual, Michael J. Shaffner, 34, was located several hours later and was also arrested.

On Wednesday, Shaffner, of Clarksville, was charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Felony Evading. He is currently being held in the Hickman County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Leidecker, of Lyles, was charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and one count of Misdemeanor Evading. He was booked into the Hickman County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
