APSU Lady Govs Soccer begins Preseason Camp

APSU Soccer Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team reported to preseason camp Tuesday morning to begin preparations for the upcoming season.

The Governors begin the 15th season in program history, with Kelley Guth, the team’s only head coach, one win away from recording her 100th career win.

Austin Peay returns eight starters from last season, including All-OVC honorees sophomore McKenzie Dixon (first team) and senior Gina Fabbro (second team).

Four players – Melody Fisher, Mary Parker Powell, Renee Semaan and Taylor White – make up the 2016 recruiting class. The newest members of the APSU roster spent the early morning hours, Tuesday, moving in to their respective dorm rooms. The remaining portion of the day consists of team meetings with other branches of the athletic department.

Fitness testing will begin Wednesday’s schedule, followed at 4:00pm, by the first team practice at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field. The team will also gather around the television to catch the Olympic Games in Rio, with former Gov Tatiana Ariza and Colombia facing France at 8:00pm.

The next two days, Thursday and Friday, will feature morning strength and agility workouts, with practice held at 3:00pm, each day.

Practice starts early for the Govs over the weekend, with the first of two Saturday sessions beginning at 8:30am, then at 3:00pm. On Sunday, the team will have morning practice before departing for retreat, held in Dover, Tennessee.

After a break from the pitch, Austin Peay will complete its preseason training schedule with practice and weight lifting, August 9th, followed by a final practice period, August 10th.
