APSU Sports Information
Troy, AL – The Governors invasion of Troy begins when Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team plays in the Trojan Invitational, Friday-Saturday, at Trojan Arena. The three-match weekend begins with a 9:30am, Friday contest against New Mexico State followed by a 5:00pm match against Southern.
Austin Peay then plays Valparaiso in an 11:30am, Saturday contest before the Govs football contest that day.
First Time Meetings
The Trojan Invitational will feature the Govs first-ever meetings against its two Friday opponents – New Mexico State and Southern. New Mexico State went undefeated in Western Athletic Conference play and played in the NCAA Tournament last season.
Southern, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, finished second in its division and reached the SWAC Tourney championship game last season. However, both teams are off to one-win starts after the season’s first week.
Prep Teammates Meet Up
The trip to Troy will provide an opportunity for old prep teammates to reunite. Burlington Central High School alums Allie O’Reilly (APSU libero) and Lexie Bouza (Valparaiso outside hitter) will meet on opposite sides of the net in Saturday’s contest.
Govs Return to Troy
Austin Peay’s volleyball team return to Troy for the first time since the 1995 season when it competed in a five-match tournament and posted a 4-1 record in matches against Jacksonville State, Samford and Troy. Only two members of this year’s team were born prior to that last trip to Troy: senior Sammie Ebright and junior transfer Kaitlyn Teeter.
