Austin Peay State University Cross Country teams compete in Rhodes College Invitational, Saturday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s and women’s cross country teams move forward in the 2016 season, with the Rhodes College Invitational due up Saturday in Memphis.

Needing an additional meet with a gap in the schedule, the Governors added Rhodes to the slate for the first time this decade. The event will be held at Shelby Farms.

The Govs took a big step forward last weekend at the Powerade Invite, with three men’s runners – Daniel Hamm (23rd, 16:12.42), Hezron Kiptoo (24th, 16:14.50) and Tyler Smith (30th, 16:29.96) – finishing in the top 30.

In addition, last year’s front runner, sophomore Wesley Gray, made his season debut and finished 40th (16:37.50).

On the women’s side, Becca Wheeler led Austin Peay for the second week in a row, finishing 31st with a two-mile time of 12:38.33.

Other highlights were Sarah-Emily Woodward (12:43.51) and Sarah Carpenter (14:44.16), who finished 34th and 35th, respectively.
