APSU Men's Golf - Austin Peay State UniversityToledo, OH – Junior Justin Arens had a second round to remember at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Monday, hosted by Toledo at the Inverness Club, posting the best outing by an Austin Peay State University men’s golfer in this still-young season.

The first round was marred by inconsistency along the front nine, particularly on hole No. 5, which saw four of five Governors go over par; however, the collective +24 on the front nine was softened considerably by a +10 on the back, with Arens shooting even par.

Arens continued to hit it solidly in round two, opening his round with a birdie on No. 9.

By the time the dust settled, the junior who hails from just over two hours away in Columbus, had five more birdies for his collection and was minus-four for the round, giving him a share of 16th entering Tuesday’s final round.

Arens’ 67 in the second was not only the best second round score of the entire 78-player field at Inverness, it equaled his career-low as a Governor, set at the 2015 OVC Championships.

“We couldn’t be more happy for Justin,” said head coach Robbie Wilson. “He will remember that round for a long time.”

In his first action of the season, sophomore Sean Butscher was second among the Govs, posting a two-round 153 (76-77) to tie for 57th, just ahead of senior Erik Hedberg (77-78) and freshman Austin Lancaster (78-77) at 154. Freshman Alex Vegh (82-91) rounded out the scoring for the Govs.

“We accomplished some of our goals early and it was good to get a little confidence on a tough course,” Wilson said. “Big numbers killed us last week and we handled that much better this morning. Inverness is a special place; it really makes you pay attention on every shot and to every detail.”

Final-round action tees off 8:00am, Tuesday, from the Inverness Club with tee times off holes No. 1 and 10. The Govs are slated to go off No. 10 around 9:00am, with a shotgun start planned in the event of inclement weather conditions.
