Brentwood, TN – Junior Kirstin Robertson, of the Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, was named adidas® OVC Offensive Player of the Week, Tuesday, for the second time in her career.
The Ashland City, Tennessee, native had her finest weekend performance as a member of the Governors, recording three goals and one assist in two contests.
Robertson’s seven goals are the most scored by an APSU player in the nonconference portion of the schedule since Tatiana Ariza tallied 11 in 2011.
“Kirstin has really stepped up and we have been working very hard to develop confidence in and around the penalty area,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “She has shown tremendous drive and hunger to be that player and make opportunities happen. As we move forward, we will continue to encourage her to be hungry to score and keep demonstrating each day how determination and work ethic result in great accomplishments.”
On the road at TCU, Friday, Robertson scored the team’s lone goal in the 29th minute. The junior stepped in front of the opposing keeper who looked to clear the ball downfield, and stole the pass for an easy empty net goal.
In Sunday’s home contest against Chattanooga, Robertson led the Govs to a 3-2 victory behind two goals and an assist. Her first score came after following her own blocked shot for a finish in the bottom left corner. Two minutes later, she assisted on Pamela Penaloza‘s goal with a through ball down the center of the pitch. Robertson capped off her impressive day with a solo run down the left side toward the end line, and fired a low shot back post in the 81st minute.
Jacksonville State’s Justine Panchuk claimed Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Eastern Kentucky’s Anna Hall was named Goalkeeper of the Week.
Austin Peay opens OVC play, 6:00pm, Thursday at Morehead State.
