Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team started Ohio Valley Conference play with a decisive three-set sweep (25-9, 25-20, 25-22) of Southeast Missouri, Friday night, at the Dunn Center.
Austin Peay (10-6, 1-0 OVC) set the tone in the first set piecing together runs of six and 10 points en route to a 18-2 lead.
Southeast Missouri would string together four points, but the Govs responded with its own four-point run and secured the set by a 25-9 margin.
Austin Peay posted 18 kills and hit .615 in the opening frame while holding SEMO to five kills and a .040 attack percentage.
Southeast Missouri (1-14, 0-1 OVC) got out to a better start in the second set and built a three-point lead at 13-10. The Govs battled back with a 4-1 run at that point to level the frame.
The third set was nearly a twin of the first set with Austin Peay jumping out to an 11-3 lead. The Redhawks used a 4-0 run to close within four points at 13-9, but could not close the gap as junior Ashley Slay ‘s kill ended the run.
The two teams traded points until Austin Peay gained a 23-17 advantage. The Redhawks dug in and pieced together a 4-0 run to get a point away at 23-22. But sophomore Logan Carger  and senior Sammie Ebright  hit back-to-back kills to end the match.
Slay and junior Kaitlyn Teeter  each had 13 kills to lead Austin Peay’s 50-kill offensive outing. The Govs, who ran their win streak to five matches, finished with a .327 attack percentage. Ebright posted a team-best .583 attack rate (7 kills, 0 errors, 12 attempts). Sophomore setter Kristen Stucker  finished with 40 assists on the 50 kills, had eight digs and added the Govs lone block of the night.
Marie Less led Southeast Missouri with eight kills. The Redhawks, who suffered their 13th consecutive loss, were held to 28 kills and a .189 attack percentage in the contest.

Teeter Keeps on Rolling
Junior Kaitlyn Teeter  hit double-digit kill territory for the sixth consecutive match, posting 13 kills in the quick three-setter against Southeast Missouri. She has 80 kills (3.81 per set) and has hit .292 during the streak.
Gerig Shines in Back Row
Freshman Ginny Gerig  put on a show in the back row with 15 of the Govs 48 digs. Her 5.00 digs per set average was her second-best outing this season, trailing only her 26-dig performance in APSU’s five-set win against Kent State, Sept. 10.
Five Straight + A Home Win
The OVC-opening sweep of Southeast Missouri was an opportune time for Austin Peay to record its first win at the Dunn Center this season. It also was the Governors fifth-straight victory, their longest win streak since the 2010 season.
What an Opening Act
With its 25-9 opening set win, the Govs held an opponent to single-digits in a set for the first time since September 8th, 2012. Then Austin Peay opened its match against Alabama State with a 25-8 first-set victory en route to a three-set win.
50 in Three
The Govs 50 kills were its most in a three-set match this season, topping its performance against Charleston Southern one week ago. Austin Peay’s .327 attack percentage was its best since its .375 mark set against Southern University, September 2nd.
