APSU Women's Golf - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – To say Austin Peay State University women’s golf has been on a roll of late really wouldn’t do justice to the situation.

Playing the best golf in program history, the Governors head to the MVC Preview, hosted by Southern Illinois at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, MO.

How the Governors plan to impress everyone again after setting the program 54-hole record in their last three tournaments, dating back to the 2016 OVC Championships, is anyone’s guess.

“(Assistant coach) Amy (McCollum) and I are proud of the hard work the girls have put in and excited about how we have started our season,” said head coach Sara Robson. “This week will be a real test at an exclusive club in Missouri.”

APSU Women's Golf - Ashton GoodleyThe Governors and Murray State were the only Ohio Valley Conference teams invited to play what is inherently a Missouri Valley Conference fall tune-up. In addition to all 10 Missouri Valley squads, other foes for the Governors this week include UMKC and Arkansas State.

At the top of the lineup it has been twins Taylor Goodley and Ashton Goodley leading the charge. Taylor boasts the best round by a Governor in 2016, with her final-round 73 at the Drake Creek Invitational in the season opener still tops among Governors.

APSU Women's Golf - Taylor GoodleyTaylor has led the Govs in both tournaments, followed by Ashton, who was 14th at Drake Creek and tied for 16th two weeks ago at the Cardinal Classic. Ashton’s final-round 74 in Yorktown was her career-low as a Governor.

Veterans Morgan Kauffman and AnnaMichelle Moore will occupy the No. 3 and 4 spots in the lineup; eight of the pair’s 12 rounds in 2016 have counted toward the team score, with each posting a season-best two weeks ago—Moore with a first-round 76, Kauffman with a second-round 75.

APSU Womens Golf - Meghann StampsThe final position will go to freshman Meghann Stamps, making her first appearance in the Governors lineup—she was an individual at Drake Creek to start the season. Senior Kelsey Schutt will appear in her third tournament as this week’s individual competitor.

“To be successful this week we will need to be accurate off the tee, trust our short games, and play with confidence and determination,” Robson said. “We have pushed the girls to be a little more aggressive—in the correct places—and to be a more determined to control the controllable; that has been our missing piece to playing amazing the last couple weeks.

“We are excited to watch this talented squad play great golf this week.”

The Governors fall schedule continues next week when Austin Peay hosts the 2016 F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, TN.
