Antoni is a visual artist who employs an amalgam of modes, including performance, sculpture, photography, installation and video.

Her body is both her tool for creating and the source from which her meaning arises. She is known for transforming materials like chocolate and soap, and incorporating everyday activities like bathing, eating and sleeping into sculptural processes.

Antoni was born in Freeport, Bahamas, in 1946, and she received a Bachelor of Art from Sarah Lawrence College and an M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design. Antoni is a featured artist on PBS’s Art21 series and has had major exhibitions of her work at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the S.I.T.E., Santa Fe; and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.

She is also the recipient of several prestigious awards, including a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellowship in 1998, and the Larry Aldrich Foundation Award in 1999. She currently lives in New York.
