Montgomery County Animal Care and Control releases September 2016 Statistics

Montgomery County Animal Care and ControlMontgomery County, TN – In an effort to make the public aware of the animal problem in Montgomery County, Montgomery County Animal Care and Control has released the statistics on the intake, adoption and euthanasia.

In September, Montgomery County Animal Care and Control took in a total of 421 animals (199 cats, 218 dogs, 1 goat, 1 turkey and 2 rabbits).

Of these, 79 were owner surrenders (29 cats, 48 dogs – 3 of these dogs were owner request euthanasia and 2 rabbits); 4 animals were placed under protective custody due to cruelty cases, 10 animals were abandoned (4 cats and 6 dogs) and 312 animals were brought in as strays.

13 animals were return adoptions (1 cat and 12 dogs).

On the out take side, 237 animals were processed out of the facility: 79 were adopted to new homes (26 cats, 52 dogs and 1 turkey); 117 transferred to rescue organizations (52 cats and 65 dogs); and 42 happily reclaimed by their owners (1 cats, 41 dogs).

Sadly, 178 were euthanized (129 cats and 49 dogs).
