Soldiers and Families Embraced to hold “Lighting the Way Home” breakfast November 10th

SAFE - Soldiers and Families EmbracedClarksville, TN – Soldiers may deploy into combat as a unit, but too often, the journey home is lonely and discouraging. Combat veterans – both men and women – may make the physical journey successfully back to the states but finding the way home after war – navigating the pain, the losses and the guilt – can take years. You can help, though.

Join SAFE: Soldiers and Families Embraced, community leaders and your neighbors on Thursday, November 10th, 2016, to share a meal at the organization’s annual fundraising breakfast, “Lighting the Way Home.”

There you’ll hear how the Clarksville community can be a part of helping navigate the invisible wounds of war and guide our combat veterans home to their families.

The breakfast, now in its fifth year, is SAFE’s main fundraiser for the year and is set for 7:30am Thursday, November 10th, at the William O. Beach Civic Hall, in Veterans Plaza.

The event now welcomes more than 150 guests who enjoy a meal together and learn about the struggles facing our military and their families and how the community can help.

“SAFE now offers more than 300 sessions of counseling a month to active duty military, veterans and families at no cost to the clients,” said Executive Director Jodi McCullah. “We rely solely upon private and corporate grants and donations to offer the counseling as well as retreats, such as our annual songwriting retreat.”

The 2016 Breakfast features an address by Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, who helped lead the fight against possibly devastating cuts to Fort Campbell and whose administration has set into place a number of resources to aid local military families.

In addition, SAFE will honor Senator Mark Green with the annual Community Hero Award, given to a community member who has gone “above and beyond” for veterans and military families in the area. Says, Senator Green, “”Our veterans are our greatest national treasure; they are men and women who have and will sacrifice everything for our freedom. There is no service we can render them that is in any respect comparable to their service of us. Being part of Soldiers and Families Embraced is the least we can do.”

Previous recipients of the award include Phil Harpel, Senior Community Banking office for US Bank, Carol Clark, Executive Assistant to the President at Austin Peay State University, and Col. Ted Crozier, US Army (Ret) and former Clarksville mayor.

Tickets for the event are $100.00 for individuals or $1000 to sponsor a table.
