Leap Youth Attend Aviation Career Day and Take Off !

LEAP OrganizationClarksville, TN – Most people fail in life not because they aim too high and miss, but because they aim too low and hit. The eight bright young LEAP students can definitely attest to these words as a result of Aviation Career Day.

On Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 Clarksville Regional Airport Director, John Patterson and North Central Institute representative, Leo Jordan, shared aviation and career information to Leap Youth as they toured the airport and college.

“Our kids must refuse to follow the crowd and choose the road less traveled to march toward our dream.”, says Richard Reason Garrett, Executive Director of the Leap Organization. “Now is the time to leap over the obstacles of fear, procrastination and self-doubt.”

“Once we determine what we really want out of life the next step is to make up our mind to go for it! Several students held ideas about their future occupations and training. One in particular aspired to be a NFL player with becoming a rapper his backup plan. John was able to captivate each student and open their minds to the idea of pursuing a career in aviation based on their interest, aptitude, and values,” stated Garrett.

Career Readiness Instructor, Elijah Annor, beamed with pride as he witnessed his youth communicate the importance of career success standards when considering vocations. Each students participates in an 8-week Career Readiness Program where they examine various aspects of work.

After completion, most will obtain part-time jobs and/or enroll in college. Leo Jordan, IT Director of North Central Institute, was able to share aviation related career options such as aviation mechanics, airport administrators, air traffic controllers, and pilots.

Since launching LEAP, over a 1000 youth have participated in its development programs resulting in improved social skills, reduced crime and substance abuse, and marketable job skills. John Patterson and Leo Jordan, stated that this collaboration is one of many that has the potential to make a huge impact in the career choices of LEAP participants.
