CDE Lightband Warns Customers of Electric Bill Scammers

Clarksville Department of Electricity - CDE - CDE LightbandClarksville, TN – CDE Lightband is reminding customers to be on alert for scammers who contact them threatening to disconnect electric service if payment is not made upon demand.

These scammers are currently targeting CDE Lightband business customers and have the ability to “spoof” or alter the name and phone number on caller ID to show as CDE Lightband.

CDE Lightband Warns Customers of Electric Bill Scammers

The most recent customer reported that she was told to go to another local business to make her payment in cash to avoid immediate disconnection.

CDE Lightband does not make phone calls to solicit payments. A safe way to avoid this scam is to call CDE Lightband at 931.648.8151 to determine account status.

Customers can also view their billing and payment history on the CDE Lightband Web site at www.cdelightband.com under My Account.

Tips to Protect Yourself from a Scam

  • If someone calls threatening to shut off your power if you don’t pay, hang up, this is a scam.
  • Call CDE Lightband at 931-648-8151 to report the scam and check your account.
  • If you think you’ve been scammed, contact the local police.
  • Never give personal or financial information to an unsolicited caller.
