Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Freshman quarterback JaVaughn Craig, of the football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Craig took home adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week after torching Tennessee State for a school-record 466 total yards and an APSU freshman-record five touchdowns in his first career start. The Chattanooga native was the only FCS player with five touchdown passes on the day and tied for most in the OVC this season.

Craig completed 17-of-25 passes for 322 yards, then picked up another 144 yards on the ground.

From available records, Craig is believed to be the first Gov to throw for 300 yards and rush for more than 100 in the same contest. His 466 total yards stand as the 18th-best mark in FCS this season.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Sophomore middle blocker Logan Carger, of the volleyball team, had 29 kills and eight blocks in two matches last week, leading the Govs with 15 kills in Saturday’s victory against Morehead State.
