Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office aids Tennessee Highway Patrol in capturing Two Armed Men in Stolen Vehicle

Tennessee Highway Patrol Aviation guides trooper to location of fleeing armed thieves.

Tennessee Highway Patrol - THPNashville, TN – Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Aviation spots fleeing suspects who previously fled law enforcement, then guides state trooper to their location where two men were arrested for possession of a stolen Jeep, several firearms and electronics.

The THP Emergency Dispatch Center received a call from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office stating that they had previously been in pursuit of a black Jeep containing stolen weapons that were possibly loaded. The last known location of the Jeep was near I-24 east, exit 11. Immediately, dispatch operators alerted THP ground and air troopers.

THP Aviation Pilot Lieutenant Brad Lund flew towards the area where he located the Jeep traveling on I-24 East.

Lieutenant Lund followed the suspects to the area of Valley Trail off of Brick Church Pike in Davidson County. Lieutenant Lund maintained a visual of the suspects as he contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office who advised they had ended their pursuit.

Montgomery County then advised Lieutenant Lund that the Jeep was stolen, and possibly contained several stolen loaded firearms.

Lieutenant Lund continued to maintain his overhead observation of the suspects as he guided Trooper Andrew Spencer toward their location. As the two male suspects spotted THP Aviation, they pulled into a yard on Valley Trail where they bailed out of the stolen Jeep, and continued running behind a nearby residence.

As the two men fled on foot, Lieutenant Lund observed one of the men throwing something on the ground near a tree. This item was a loaded handgun which was recovered by Trooper Spencer.

Shortly after securing the weapon, Trooper Spencer made contact with the two male subjects.

The two men were held at the scene by Trooper Spencer. During this time, THP’s Emergency Dispatch Operators were in contact with the Metro Nashville Police Department requesting backup units for Trooper Spencer. Once Metro Police arrived, Trooper Spencer arrested both male subjects.

The driver of the stolen Jeep was identified as Curtis Taylor, 21, of Nashville, TN. Curtis was charged with failure to stop frisk halt, theft of property that included ten thousand to sixty thousand dollars, carrying or possession of handgun, simple possession of marijuana and reckless driving.

The passenger was identified as Marquise Whitson, 18, of Nashville, TN. Whitson was arrested and charged with failure to stop frisk halt, theft of property that included ten thousand to sixty thousand dollars, carrying or possession of handgun.

Both men were transported to Metro Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. Booking photos may be obtained from the Metro Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
