It’s her second-straight double-double and 12th of her career, and has now led the Govs in scoring 16 times throughout her four years at APSU. In addition, she is now 21 points away from entering the top 15 in career points, currently at 1,049.

At one point in the fourth period, beginning at the 6:36 mark, Banks recorded six points in 18 seconds, helping the Governors go on a 9-0 run to increase their lead to 16 points.

With a size advantage down low, Austin Peay’s post players combined to score 52 of the team’s 68 points, with senior forward Beth Rates (14 points) and junior center Brianne Alexander (12 points) also finishing in double figures.

Game Notes

The storyline to watch entering the contest was the career blocks total by Rates. The senior needed one to reach 100 for her career, but exceeded the mark to reach and recorded four, moving her to fourth place on the all-time charts.

Alexander recorded eight of her 12 points in the opening period, and finished 4-of-7 from the field with eight rebounds.

Junior point guard Bri Williams added seven points, which included one of APSU’s two three-pointers, along with three rebounds.

Senior guard Jacey Scott played 16 minutes off the bench, finishing third on the team with six rebounds, in addition to two points and two assists.

Austin Peay posted more assists than turnovers, a 17-12 margin, with Rates, Alexander and redshirt sophomore Falon Baker each dishing out four apiece.

David Midlick’s Message

“Beth has a knack of timing those and making blocks. I want her to block shots, but I also want her to be second off her feet and not commit a foul while trying. She had four tonight, and her stats on the all-time list prove what type of shot blocker she is.”
