Encourages Students to Submit FAFSA by January 17th to Meet Tennessee Promise Deadline
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has proclaimed Thursday, January 12th, as the first “TN FAFSA Frenzy Day,” encouraging high school seniors and current college students to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by January 17th to maintain eligibility for key scholarship programs including Tennessee Promise.
Tennessee Promise is the state’s groundbreaking scholarship and mentoring program that provides high school graduates two years of community or technical college free of tuition and fees.

Mayor McMillan orders flags flown at half-staff in his honor
Clarksville, TN – Former Clarksville Mayor Ted Crozier Sr., who devoted his life to family, country and community, died Monday from a respiratory illness at the age of 91.
Col. Crozier served in the U.S. Army for 32 years, retiring at the rank of colonel in 1977. He served as the first Commander of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell and was the first aviator to serve as the chief of staff for the 101st Airborne Division.

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water has closed a section of Oak Street from Providence Boulevard to E. Street for water main work.
Motorists will be detoured to E. Street to avoid the work zone.
The water main work is anticipated to take most of the day to complete or until approximately 4:00pm.
Tampa, FL – Motorists saw little change at the pump last week. Compared to a week ago, average prices remained the same in Florida, and rose 1-cent in Georgia and Tennessee.
“Frozen gas prices are a good sign that we could soon see some relief at the pump,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Now that the holidays are over and cold weather is moving across much of the country, gasoline demand should drop, and prices could too.”

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) urges Tennesseans to place special focus on home fire safety during what has traditionally been the most tragic week for fire-related incidents in the Volunteer State.
Since 2010, Tennessee has averaged 2.75 fatal fires (22 in 8 years) and 3.375 fire deaths (27 in 8 years) during the second week of January according to SFMO data. This is the highest number of both fires and victims for any week of the year and is nearly double the rate of the average week.
