Knoxville, TN – Tennessee kicks off a three-game homestand on Saturday when Mississippi State visits Thompson-Boling Arena. Tip-off is slated for 5:00pm CT on SEC Network.
The Vols (9-9, 2-4 SEC) face their second-straight opponent from the Magnolia State after dropping a Tuesday night contest on the road at Ole Miss. Robert Hubbs III and Lamonte Turner scored 15 points apiece to lead UT while Jordan Bowden added 14 points.
Hubbs continues to lead UT offensively, averaging 14.4 ppg to go along with 4.9 rpg — the second-best mark on the team. Freshman Grant Williams, who paces the team with 5.7 rpg and 2.1 bpg, is second on the team in scoring at 10.5 ppg.

General Andrew Poppas takes command of 101st Airborne Division, Screaming Eagles bid farewell to General Gary Volesky

Fort Campbell, KY – The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) has opened a new chapter in its rendezvous with destiny. Maj. Gen. Gary J. Volesky, the 45th commanding general of the 101st, placed the division in the hands of Maj. Gen. Andrew P. Poppas, the incoming division commander, during a change of command ceremony January 19th, 2017.
During the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Stephen J. Townsend, XVIII Airborne Corps commander, praised Volesky’s leadership during his command.
“Our Army couldn’t have chosen a better leader to command this division two and a half years ago than Gary Volesky,” Townsend said. “During his watch, elements of the 101st have deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Liberia and a whole list of other nations around the world in support of both combat and shaping operations for our nation.”

Tennessee Improve Act a Good Starting Point for Sustainable Transportation Funding
Knoxville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam announced Wednesday a comprehensive transportation funding plan that also includes a tax cut on food and manufacturing.
The proposal is called the IMPROVE Act, “Improving Manufacturing, Public Roads and Opportunities for a Vibrant Economy.”

Robinson helped the Govs get on track in OVC play with an Illinois sweep last week, earning adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week in the process. The St. Louis, MO native returned to nearby SIU Edwardsville Thursday night with a 26-point performance in the Governors overtime victory against the Cougars.
Nashville, TN – Following several rounds of severe winter weather in many parts of the country, the American Red Cross urges eligible blood and platelet donors to help restock its shelves to overcome a shortage.
Since December 1st, about 300 blood drives across 27 states have been forced to cancel due to inclement winter weather, resulting in more than 10,500 blood and platelet donations going uncollected.

NFL, American Heart Association, Discovery Education to host Virtual Field Trip Live from Super Bowl LI
Free Virtual Class to be Live-Streamed in Classrooms Nationwide
Dallas, TX – The NFL and American Heart Association, together with Discovery Education, will host the first-ever AHA-NFL PLAY 60 Challenge Virtual Field Trip (VFT) live from Houston on Tuesday, January 31st at 12:00pm CT during the NFL Experience Driven by Genesis.
The free virtual class will be live-streamed in classrooms across the country, reaching thousands of students. Houston Texans players Whitney Mercilus and Christian Covington and the American Heart Association’s Mercedes Carnethon, Ph.D. will teach students the science behind cardio and strength exercises that NFL players use to stay fit and active.
