Knoxville, TN – Tennessee earned its first win over a top-5 ranked opponent since 2010 with an 82-80 victory over No. 4 Kentucky on Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena. The Volunteers last win over a top-5 team came on December 11th, 2010 when UT defeated No. 3 Pittsburgh, 83-76.
The win also marked the first over a ranked opponent this season for the Volunteers after losing their previous five against ranked foes.UT has now defeated the Wildcats in their last two visits to Knoxville after securing an 84-77 victory at TBA last year.
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Police Detective Tracy Woodruff is investigating the robbery of a Memorial Drive convenience store which was reported at 11:33pm Sunday night, January 22nd, 2017.
Two black male suspects armed with handguns took cash from the register and from the clerk’s wallet. The suspects also took Cigarillo cigars, Backwoods mild cigars, and over fifty packs of Newport cigarettes from store shelves.

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is investigating multiple local sales of large numbers of old U.S. currency known as silver certificates.
Silver certificates were paper money issued by the U.S. Government until being replaced by modern currency in 1964.
The money in question may have come from a single collection.

Father of Councilman Bill Powers served in local government for 33 years
Clarksville, TN – Richard Randolph Powers, 92, a former City Councilman and County Commissioner, and the father of current Ward 11 City Councilman Bill Powers, died Sunday, January 22nd, 2017.
“Mr. Powers was a spirited gentleman who devoted time and effort to good government and his community. We honor his long service to the people of Clarksville,” Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan said Monday. “Our condolences go out to Councilman Bill Powers and all his family and friends as they mourn the passing of Mr. Powers.”
Tampa, FL – The national average price of gas continues to decline as U.S. oil production increases. Today’s average price of $2.31 per gallon represents a decrease of three cents per gallon on the week, four cents per gallon on the month, and prices have moved lower for 14 of the past 15 days.
Despite this recent trend lower, retail averages are up by 46 cents per gallon as compared to one year ago.

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department Traffic Unit will be shutting down all access to Dunbar Cave Road from Warfield Boulevard (State Route 374) from 9:30am until Noon.
Motorists will be able to travel Warfield Boulevard, but they will not be able to turn onto Dunbar Cave Road from either direction while yesterday’s tanker truck collision is investigated and reconstructed.
