Columbia, MO – Behind an exemplary day from senior leader Erik Hedberg, Austin Peay State University men’s golf finds itself in third place after 36 holes at the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Missouri at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
After taking a brief lead during Round Two, the Govs are third at 596 (296-300), behind the 30th-ranked Tigers and Northern Illinois.
Austin Peay is one shot ahead of Ohio Valley Conference foe SIU Edwardsville (597) and seven shots up on Arkansas-Little Rock and Missouri State.
With 18 holes to go, Hedberg has earned a share of fourth thanks to a 143 (71-72) and a tournament-best 3.65 average on par-4 holes (seven-under par) and 11 birdies. He birdied hole No. 8 and No. 17 in both rounds and rolled in six birdies in round one alone.
Junior Hunter Tidwell bounced back with an opening-round 72 and sits in a tie for 16th at 149 (72-77); he averaged even par on par-4 holes, shooting par or better on 14 of 20 par-4 attempts over the first 36 holes. Freshman Alex Vegh was one shot behind at 150 (76-74), tied for 22nd; he played the back-nine at one-under par in the first round.
Sophomore Sean Butscher shot par or better on 26 of his first 36 holes, leading the Govs in pars (24) and par-3 scoring (3.13/hole); he shot 154 (77-77) overall, with Austin Lancaster (80-78-158) rounding out the Austin Peay lineup.
The Govs close out the final 18 at the Tiger Invitational paired with Missouri and Northern Illinois. Final-round action is scheduled to begin 8:00am, Tuesday, at Old Hawthorne.
