Gleason is one of 40 named to the midseason watch list, which features the nation’s top amateur players from the college ranks.

At the season’s halfway mark, Gleason has distinguished himself as one of the nation’s top offensive threats. The O’Fallon, Missouri product is one of only two Division I athletes to rank among the nation’s top 20 in batting average (19th, .404), on-base percentage (19th, .500), slugging percentage (9th, .752) and RBI per game (8th, 1.39).

In addition to the statistics above, Gleason leads the Govs in doubles (11), home runs (nine) and walks (21). He also has posted 14 multi-hit games and 13 multi-RBI outings in the season’s 31 games. Earlier this season, Gleason became just the 19th Govs hitter to post 200 career hits and only the 11th player to record 150 career RBI.

The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will continue to maintain a rolling list of athletes, allowing players to play themselves into consideration for the award before announcing the semifinalists, May 31st.

Once the list of semifinalists is announced, it will be sent to a voting body consisting of past USA Baseball National Team coaches and press officers, members of the media that follow amateur baseball closely, select professional baseball personnel, current USA Baseball staff and the 39 previous winners of the award, representing a group of more than 200 voters.

Amateur baseball fans across the country will be able to vote for their favorite semifinalists at GoldenSpikesAward.com from May 31st-June 9th. On Wednesday, June 14th, USA Baseball will announce the finalists for the award, and fan voting will once again commence that same day. Fan voting for the finalists will end on Friday, June 23rd.

The 2017 Golden Spikes Award winner will be named on Thursday, June 29th, at a presentation in Los Angeles. The finalists and their families will be honored at the Rod Dedeaux Foundation Award Dinner that evening at the Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles.
