The women’s golf team will be playing at the Hampton Cove Gold Course in Owens Cross Roads, AL, a Scottish links-style course (6,050 yards, par 72) that is part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

This is the third straight year the OVC women’s golf championship will be played it the course with all five of the APSU women’s team having played the course before in championship play.

Representing the Govs this week at the tournament will be seniors Morgan Kauffman and Amber Bosworth, junior AnnaMichelle Moore and sophomores Ashton and Taylor Goodley.

Coming into the tournament, the Govs season scoring average would put them as the tournament’s seventh seed out of nine teams, with an average of 311.7 strokes per round, but all five Govs also come in playing some of their best golf of the season.

Kauffman has posted three straight top-20 finishes, Taylor Goodley has a top-10 finish in her last tournament, and Ashton Goodley has finished in the top 15 in three of her last four tournaments – including a top-five finish.

Moore, who has battled injuries all spring, is a healthy as she’s been all season, and has played in the Govs last three tournaments – including a season-best round of 76 – while Bosworth posted a season-low round 74 two weeks ago.

Two days after the end of the women’s golf tournament, the OVC men’s and women’s tennis tournaments will begin at the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center in Nashville, TN – the third-straight year the championship has been held at the location.

Only the Govs men’s team will participle in the championships this week, with the women’s team losing a tie-breaker for the final spot in their tournament field, with a 4-3 regular-season loss to Murray State.

The men’s team will be the fifth-seed in their tournament and will face fourth-seeded Belmont in the opening round – a team they lost to 6-1 in their only regular-season meeting.

But while they come into the championship as the fifth-seed, they are coming in having posted back-to-back wins to close out their regular-season schedule.

The Govs hope to continue to get solid play from sophomore Almantas Ozelis and senior Manuel Montenegro, who both enter with win-streaks in tow in singles play, while sophomore Alex Kartsonis also has a winning record in single play during the regular season.

In doubles play, the team of Ozelis and junior Aleh Drobysh have been the Govs most consistent duo during the regular season, while Montenegro and senior James Mitchell and Kartsonis and sophomore Chad Woodham come in having won their last match played together.

Following the tennis tournaments will be the Men’s golf tournament (April 24th-April 26th), softball (May 10th-May 13th), men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships (May 11th-May 13th) and finally the baseball championship tournament on May 23rd-May 28th to wrap-up the athletic school year.
