APSU Women's Track and FieldClarksville, TN – After a successful home meet, it’s back to the road for Austin Peay State University track and field as the Govs head south to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational at George C. Griffin Track, with action slated to begin 11:00am (ET), Friday.

With less than a month remaining in the regular season, the Governors have three meets remaining before the OVC Outdoor Championships and will take on a stout field this weekend.

In addition to the host Yellow Jackets, Austin Peay will face off against athletes from East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Lipscomb, Ole Miss, Rutgers, Syracuse, UAB, VCU and Western Kentucky, as well as OVC foes Tennessee State and Southeast Missouri.

All eyes this week will turn toward Austin Peay’s jumps group. After winning both the triple and long jump in her final appearance at Fortera Stadium, senior Kaylnn Pitts has likely punched her ticket to the NCAA East Preliminary, ranking 21st and 31st, respectively, in those events entering the weekend; with the top-48 in each event earning a preliminary invite, it’s time for Chancis Jones to join Pitts on the roll call. Jones, a Chattanooga native, ranks 77th (triple) and 67th (long) entering the weekend.

Another Governor hoping to earn a bid to the NCAA’s—and seeks to topple a school record in the process—is senior Myiah Johnson. The Memphis native, who has been less than five-hundredths of a second away from the school 100m hurdles record in each of the last two meets, is paired with Danielle Delgado (Syracuse, 35th in the East) and Raven Stewart (Georgia Tech, 51st) in the second heat of the event.

Austin Peay’s talented trio of pole vaulters—Savannah Amato, Dascha Hix and Gretchen Rosch—will compete in the pole vault. Southeast Missouri’s Sierra Maddox, the main competition intent on keeping the Govs from sweeping the podium next month at the OVC Championships, also will compete in an early preview of the season’s final team event.

Live results will be provided by Delta Timing and there is a slight chance of rain in the area during the weekend. Complete results and a full recap will be found on LetsGoPeay.com at the end of competition.
