APSU Women's Track and FieldAtlanta, GA – Against some of the south’s best competition, Austin Peay State University track and field again put forth some excellent performances at this weekend’s Georgia Tech Invitational.

“I think we made another step in the right direction,” said head coach Doug Molnar [1]. “We competed very well under slightly windy conditions.”

Austin Peay’s pole vaulters were again among the top performers at George C. Griffin Track, with sophomore Savannah Amato [2] leading the pack.

The Delaware, Ohio native was runner-up with a 3.89m (12-09.00) mark, followed by Dascha Hix [3] (3.74m; 12-03.25) in third and junior Gretchen Rosch [4] (3.44m; 11-03.50) in sixth.

The Governors jumpers again enjoyed a successful weekend. In Friday night action, senior Kaylnn Pitts [5]‘ 5.99m (19-08.00) long jump mark earned her runner-up honors in the event, while senior Chancis Jones [6] followed that up with a fifth-place, 11.61m (38-01.25) triple jump mark, Saturday.

Austin Peay put two high jumpers in the top-10 as well, with sophomore Nia Gibbs-Francis [7] placing fifth (1.63m; 5-04.25) and junior Keyondria Ross [8] hitting the same mark and tying for ninth thanks to number of attempts.

“Our jumpers competed well again,” Molnar said. “Going 2-3-6 in a competitive was a good step; the marks weren’t personal-bests but it was another solid week.”

On the track, senior Myiah Johnson [9] finished 15th in the 100m hurdles with a 14.33 mark, while the Governors 4x100m relay team of Tymeitha Tolbert [10], Garielle Netter [11], Diamond Battle [12] and Jala Allen [13] finished sixth thanks to a season-best 47.22 mark.

The Governors close out a busy April next weekend at the Memphis Invitational, with just three weeks remaining until the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships in Oxford, Alabama.
