Nashville Sounds fall 3-1 to Memphis Redbirds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Memphis Redbirds continued their winnings ways with a 3-1 win over the Nashville Sounds on Monday night at First Tennessee Park.

Three of the four runs on the night came in the first inning when Memphis got on the board early on Tyler O’Neill’s two-run homer to deep left field.

The Sounds came back with a run of their own with a two-out rally in the home half of the inning. Joey Wendle singled and raced home on Renato Nuñez’s double down the left field line.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam releases statement on Nathan Bedford Forrest Bust

 

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam issued this statement today regarding the bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest in the State Capitol:

“My position on this issue has not changed – I do not believe Nathan Bedford Forrest should be one of the individuals we honor at the Capitol. The General Assembly has established a process for addressing these matters and I strongly encourage the Capitol Commission and the Historical Commission to act.”

APSU Women’s Tennis receives OVC Team Academic Award

APSU Women's TennisBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team was one of 16 teams to receive an Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Achievement Award, the league office announced Monday.

The OVC Team Academic Achievement Awards which are presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution’s team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade point average or higher.

Clarksville Police Department Teamed Up with Housing Authority to Deliver School Supplies

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department teamed up with the Clarksville Housing Authority to deliver 437 (255 Elementary, 182 High School) school supply bags loaded with back to school goodies.

Members of the Clarksville Housing Authority and Clarksville Police Department visited 232 residences in Lincoln Homes, Summit Heights, Edmondson Ferry, Caldwell Lane, and Maddox Circle to make deliveries. generously donated by several local area individuals/businesses.

Austin Peay State University Football Fan Fest set for this Saturday, August 19th

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay Football Fan Fest, which gives the local community a chance to meet the Austin Peay State University football team, will be held Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at Fortera Stadium.

The event will follow the Governors final preseason scrimmage, which will start at 2:00pm in Fortera Stadium. Gates will open at 1:00pm for the scrimmage and Fan Fest with free admission for all who attend.

Dodging the Roadkill - A Biker's JourneyClarksville, TN – I’m a relatively new biker.  I’m still learning.  Things that come naturally to veteran bikers are still working their way into my routine.  I’m thankful that none of these “forgetful” moments have caused me any problems, because they can.

Mirrors:

In the beginning, I didn’t seem to pay attention to the rear view mirrors like I should.  I would glance over my shoulder and drift into the passing lane.  I would just be in a “zone”during the ride and not notice someone in my blind spot.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors shine in classroom during past school year

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – When the Ohio Valley Conference announced its year-end totals for academic excellence among its member schools, Austin Peay State University’s student athletes again proved to be among the best in the OVC.

First, the OVC announced that among all the conference sponsored sports 221 total student athletes earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for the 2016-17 school year.

The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given to the student athletes who post the highest grade-point average in each sport, which this year required a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the year.
