Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team got its 2017 season off to a strong start with victories against UMKC and Marshall in the Culvers Governors Challenge, Friday.
Austin Peay (2-0) shook the rust off in its season-opening match against UMKC, winning in three sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-16).
Nashville, TN – Joey Wendle’s walk-off base hit in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Nashville Sounds a 6-5 win over the Round Rock Express in front of a sellout crowd of 10,370 fans at First Tennessee Park Friday night.
Wendle’s game-winner came just moments after Franklin Barreto started a rally with a two-out walk. The speedster swiped second and third base before trotting home on Wendle’s base hit off Round Rock reliever Tanner Scheppers.
The-back-and-forth contest started early with both teams scoring within the first two innings. Barreto wasted little time getting Nashville a lead when he clobbered a two-run homer to left-center to make it 2-0 in the first.

Clarksville, TN – Friday was a night of firsts for Austin Peay State University women’s soccer.
It was the Governors first regular season home game for the 2017 season.
It saw sophomore Shelby Stewart score her first career goal as a Gov.
Washington, D.C. – As it bears down on the Gulf of Mexico, Hurricane Harvey has high potential to negatively affect five southern Texas coast refineries and condensate splitter as well as crude and gasoline inventory levels in the region and beyond. The National Weather Service’s (NWS) National Hurricane Center (NHC) expects Harvey to approach the southern Texas coast on Friday.
Additionally, the Government of Mexico has issued a tropical storm watch for the area south of the mouth of the Rio Grande to Boca de Catan.
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville’s third annual Welcome Home Veterans parade is scheduled for Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at 10:00am in historic downtown.
“Originally created to honor Vietnam Veterans, the parade now a tribute by Vietnam Veterans to all American Heroes. This is a day for families, friends and all citizens to salute the service and sacrifices made by America’s Military,” said Visit Clarksville Board Chairman Jerry Allbert.
Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department says that there have been approximately 373 vehicle burglaries since the beginning of the year.
The vehicle burglaries considered were those which had some type of unlawful entry and did not take thefts occurring while in the company of acquaintances.
Out of the 373 vehicle burglaries, 51 of them had firearms stolen from inside of the vehicle.
Toronto, Canada – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Tearra Banks has signed her first professional contract with Bnot Hertzeliya in Israel’s Division 1.
Banks, a 6’3” center, is coming off of a four-year collegiate career with the Austin Peay State Lady Govs. This past season, Banks was named Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Player of the Year. She was second in the OVC in scoring with 19.0 points per game and first in rebounding with 8.0 rebounds per game.
Banks was also 13th in the NCAA and second in the conference in field goal percentage at 59.9%.
Clarksville, TN – On Thursday, August 24th, 2017, around 11:30pm, a man living on Wilcox Street opened his garage and took his dogs for a walk. When he returned a short time later, he noticed two men were inside his garage rummaging through his truck.
He confronted the men and asked what they were doing, at which time, both of the men took off running. He immediately call 911 and police flooded the area.
