APSU Volleyball faces UCLA in first round of NCAA Tournament

APSU Women's VolleyballIndianapolis, IN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will make its first-ever trip to California when it faces No. 15 national seed UCLA in the first-round of the 2017 NCAA Volleyball Championship the NCAA Division I Volleyball Committee announced Monday night.

TWRA releases 2017-18 Winter Trout Stocking Schedule

 

Clarksville’s Billy Dunlop Park to be restocked on January 6th and February 1st, 2018

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced its 2017-18 winter trout stocking schedule. TWRA plans to release approximately 90,000 rainbow trout into Tennessee waters from December through March.

The program provides numerous close to home trout fishing opportunities for anglers during the winter months. These fisheries also provide a great opportunity to introduce children or first-time anglers to fishing.

TWRA’s winter trout stocking program will begin in late November and continue into March. Approximately 90,000 rainbow trout will be stocked during the time frame. Updates can be found on the TWRA website, www.tnwildlife.org

APSU Women’s Basketball comes from behind to defeat Lipscomb, 71-63

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team overcame a nine-point deficit to win on the road at Lipscomb riding Keisha Gregory‘s double-double.  

The back-and-forth matchup featured six ties and 12 lead changes before the comeback Govs struck again, erasing an 8-0 third-quarter run to win 71-63 in Nashville.

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team saw a balanced scoring effort spearheaded by freshman Dayton Gumm in a dominant 86-61 win against Miami University, Sunday, in the Dunn Center.

In his first career start, Gumm led all scorers with 23 points, while fellow Bowling Green freshman Terry Taylor chipped in with 12.

My story was featured in the March 2017 issue of American Motorcyclist Magazine.  I was overwhelmed by the response I got, from bikers all over the country who had suffered from depression.  If I was able to touch just ONE person who had been through the same experience, it was worth it.

Nashville Sounds release Schedule for 2018

 

41st Nashville Sounds Season Begins April 5th with Home Opener set for April 10th

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club has announced its 2018 schedule, complete with home and away times for all 140 games.

The 41st season in club history begins on Thursday, April 5th, 2018 when the Sounds travel to New Orleans to take on the Baby Cakes at 7:00pm. It’s the first of a five-game series against the American Southern Division rival.

The fourth season at state-of-the-art First Tennessee Park begins on Tuesday, April 10th when the Sounds host the Iowa Cubs at 6:35pm. Opening Night against the Cubs is the start of a seven-game homestand that also brings the Omaha Storm Chasers to downtown Nashville.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Freshman outside hitter Brooke Moore, of the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Louisville native led Austin Peay to its first Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title since 2010, leading the tournament with 48 kills and posting a .305 attack percentage in contests against Southeast Missouri, Eastern Kentucky and Murray State. In the process, she became the first freshman in league history to take tournament MVP honors.

Unemployment Rates In Nearly All Tennessee Counties Remained Under 5.0 Percent In October

 

State Continues to Experience Record Low Unemployment  

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce DevelopmentNashville, TN – Nearly all Tennessee counties continued to have unemployment rates below 5.0 percent in October 2017, following a record-breaking September when, for the first time ever, each of the state’s 95 counties experienced a rate below 5.0 percent.

October marked the fifth consecutive month Tennessee’s statewide unemployment rate was in record territory, matching the all-time low of 3.0 percent set the month before.

Austin Peay State University partners with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to create mock crime scene for criminal justice students

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Huddled with a group of Austin Peay State University criminal justice students, Mark Wojnarek finally asked the question they had all spent the better part of a half hour trying to solve.

“Are we looking at the scene of a crime,” Wojnarek, a senior investigator sergeant with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, asked. “Some crime scenes can be staged, so are we looking at a murder, or are we looking at a suicide?”
