APSU Women’s Basketball hosts Western Illinois, Saturday

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team returns to action 2:00pm, Saturday, November 9th for their final home game of the non-conference schedule.

The Govs are riding a seven-game win streak, going 4-0 at home and 3-0 on the road in that stretch.

The Governors are shooting 44.9 percent from the field, averaging 70.6 points per contest, and outscoring opponents by an average of 8.3 points.

Keisha Gregory, Brianah Ferby and Brianne Alexander continue to lead the Governors, averaging double-figures through the first eight games of the season.

Gregory is averaging 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 58.9 percent from the floor.

The Govs road contest against Northern Kentucky was the tale of two halves, where the Governors were led by redshirt-junior Falon Baker in the first two quarters and junior Keisha Gregory in the final two periods. 

Baker scored 14 of her 16 points in the first half shooting 66.7 percent from beyond the arc, driving the Govs to an 11-point halftime lead.

APSU Basketball - Keisha GregoryGregory did not attempt a shot in the first half, but came alive after the break, scoring 15 points on 85.7 percent shooting, helping the Governors overcome a third-quarter drought where they shot 5-of-16 from the field.

Baker only scored once in the second half, but it was her drive to the basket with 3.9 seconds remaining in the game that lifted the Governors to their first seven-game winning streak since 2003-04. The Govs had a 10-point contribution from the bench, scoring a season-high 19 points off NKU’s 21 turnovers.

The Govs offensive balance will be put to the test against the Fighting Leathernecks, who are holding opponents to an average of 63.1 points per game, while outscoring them by 23.4 points. Western Illinois recently dispatched fellow Ohio Valley Conference member, Southeast Missouri, 87-59 and have only dropped one road game this season to Northern Illinois by two points.

First Time Foes
Austin Peay faces Western Illinois for the first time in program history. This is the second game in a row where the Govs are playing an opponent for the first time.

Bench Benefits
Freshman Brianah Ferby scored seven points against NKU, and is averaging 11.6 points per game, shooting 45.3 percent from the field coming off the bench.

Double-Digits
Three Governors are averaging double-digits through the first eight games: Gregory (11.8), Brianah Ferby (11.6) and Alexander (10.0).

Winning Streak
The Govs are on a seven-game winning streak for the first time since 2003-04, when they had an eight-game winning streak topping Southeast Missouri, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State, Jacksonville State, Samford (away), UT Martin, Murray State and Samford (home) in consecutive contests.
