Clarksville Police say Three Out of Four DUI Arrests Over the Weekend Involved Vehicle Crashes

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department reports three out of the four of the driving under the influence arrests over the weekend involved vehicle crashes.

The driver in the fourth DUI arrest narrowly missed crashing into three vehicles and hit a curb blowing out two of the vehicle’s tires before stopping.

The first of four crashes occurred on Tylertown Road when the driver Sung Lee attempted to make a left turn at a high rate of speed, left the roadway and crashed into a light pole. He had been in a bar and consumed alcohol prior to the crash at around 1:30am on Friday, December 15th. There were two passengers in the vehicle with him, but neither was injured.

In the second DUI which occurred on Saturday, December 16th around 1:33am, an officer observed a vehicle driven by James Bard, traveling north in the south bound lane of Fort Campbell Boulevard. The officer observed the vehicle almost strike another vehicle head on.

After the officer turned the patrol car around and got behind the vehicle to stop it, he saw it hit a curb and blew out two tires and then almost hit two other vehicles before stopping. There was no one else in the vehicle and an almost empty bottle of alcohol in the car.

The third DUI occurred at 674 North Riverside Drive, on Saturday, December 16th around 3:25am. The driver, Annette Sanders, swerved to miss something in the road, left the roadway, and hit a tree, causing the vehicle to tip over its side. The driver did not recall how the vehicle ended up on its side and was transported to the hospital for clearance, prior to being booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

The fourth DUI was a non-injury crash, in which, Kathy Mathis, driving a Nissan Altima rear ended another vehicle on Fort Campbell Boulevard. She had slurred speech and performed poorly on the standardized field sobriety tests.


Fortunately, none of the crashes were fatalities or resulted in serious bodily injuries. But, as a reminder over the holiday season, Clarksville Police will be out in force and performing saturation patrols to take impaired drivers off the streets.
