Tennessee’s Unemployment Rate Remains One Percentage Point Lower than National Average
Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips have announced that the November statewide unemployment rate posted significantly lower than November 2016 and notably lower than the national average.
The preliminary, seasonally-adjusted statewide unemployment rate for November 2017 was 3.1 percent – two percentage points lower than it was one year ago and one percentage point below the national average of 4.1.

Winston-Salem, NC – The 21st-ranked Tennessee Volunteers hit the road again this weekend to face off against another ACC foe in Wake Forest at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The game will tip at 12:30pm and will be televised live on ESPN2 and streamed online via WatchESPN.
Tennessee (8-2) enters the matchup with a pair of victories over teams from the ACC (NC State, 67-58, and Georgia Tech, 77-70) already this season. UT fell to No. 7 North Carolina in a hard-fought battle in Thompson-Boling Arena last Sunday, marking the Vols’ first home loss of the year. On Wednesday, Tennessee bounced back to hold off a Furman team riding a five-game winning streak, 66-61.
Clarksville, TN – The Christmas on the Cumberland light display at McGregor Park will be closed on Friday evening, December 22nd, 2017 due to inclement weather.
Christmas on the Cumberland, Clarksville’s popular lighted walk-through event, will be open nightly from 5:00pm-10:00pm, Sunday through Thursday and 5:00pm-11:00pm, Fridays and Saturdays through January 2nd, 2018.

Clarksville, TN – Jordan Harmon, a 2017 Austin Peay State University alumnus, was named Director of Development for Athletics Fundraising within the University Advancement office at the start of December.
Harmon, a St. Louis native, will be responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies to enhance Austin Peay’s 16 varsity sports. In that role, he will be assist the department’s efforts to cultivate and steward major gifts for the athletics department. Harmon replaces Alaric Klinghard, who left the position this past summer.
227th Composite Supply Company Soldiers return to Fort Campbell after nine-months in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve

Fort Campbell, KY – Approximately 210 Soldiers from 227th Composite Supply Company, 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Sustainment Brigade, 101st Abn. Div. returned home from United States Army Europe, November 29th, after a nine-month deployment in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
U.S. Army Europe’s Operation Atlantic Resolve demonstrates continued U.S. commitment to collective security in order to reassure North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies and partners of America’s dedication to enduring peace and stability in the region following Russia’s intervention in Ukraine, according to the official U.S. Army Europe page.
Tennessee Titans (8-6) vs. Los Angeles Rams (10-4)

Nashville, TN – With two games remaining in the regular season, the Tennessee Titans (8-6) host a Christmas Eve showdown this week with the NFC West-leading Los Angeles Rams (10-4). Kickoff at Nissan Stadium (capacity 69,143) is scheduled for noon CST on Sunday, December 24th.
Sunday’s game marks the Rams’ third trip to Tennessee in the regular season. Their last visit was on December 13th, 2009, a game the Titans won 47-7. However, the Rams lead the all-time series 6-5.
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University, which turned 90 in April, experienced another big year, with new buildings and programs transforming the campus over the last 12 months.
Women’s volleyball and men’s football electrified the community this fall, and in August, thousands of people cheered as the afternoon sky went dark for nearly two minutes. As this 90th year comes to an end, here are some of the major stories that came out of Austin Peay in 2017.
