Dodging the Roadkill: Merry Christmas and Thank You

Dodging the Roadkill - A Biker's JourneyClarksville, TN – When I started this journey two years ago, I began a journal of my experiences and started blogging about it here.  Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this kind of response.

Thank You!

Buying a motorcycle when I did, was one of the most life changing experiences I’ve ever had.  I have met some INCREDIBLE people and traveled to some destinations that I would have never seen had it not been for this motorcycle.

When I returned from my first long distance trip after buying my first bike, the first call I got was from a close friend I met while doing stand-up comedy.  He SHOWERED me with praise for what I had just done and told me how proud of me he was.

I was baffled.  I didn’t know what the big deal was and it wasn’t until after it all sunk in that I realized, ” yep, it WAS a big deal.”

I was 63 years old at the time, traveling alone, on a motorcycle that I had only owned for 3 months.  I wasn’t an experienced biker like many of you, but in less than two years, I’ve logged 70,000 miles and been to some great destinations.

I’ve heard from SO many of you who have also struggled with depression and have told me your stories.

I’ve heard from many of you on how to be a better biker, how to travel, how to pack, or just any little thing that you think would be helpful.

I appreciate a biker’s attitude and honesty.  I appreciate a biker’s love and loyalty.  But most of all, I appreciate a biker’s respect.

That’s been one of the pure joys of this experience and that’s how HELPFUL all of you have been.  I’ve had invitations from California to Florida and all points in between. “Come ride with us” you’ve said.

You’ve been amazing to me and you have embraced me and my journey and for that I want to thank you.

So as we head into the Christmas weekend and the time of the year where we ALL should count our blessings and be thankful, I want to let you know that I consider you one of the great blessings in my life.

I don’t know how long this journey will last, or where it will take me next, but I am THRILLED to have this opportunity to meet you and share our stories with each other.

As I read the “Biker’s Code” last night, it touched me and reminded me that we’re a special group of people, misunderstood by many, but LOVED by each other.

I’m not an expert, I’m just a guy on a motorcycle moving on down the highway and collecting memories along the way.

Ride on my brothers and sisters, and thank you!
