Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team continues their four-game road swing 3:00pm, Thursday at Tennessee State.
The Govs are coming off a difficult road swing at Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State, where first-half struggles proved to be the Achilles heel for the Governors, despite strong second-half surges.
Austin Peay shot above 60.0 percent in the third quarter against the Golden Eagles and the Gamecocks, but their comeback efforts fell short.
Brianne Alexander and Falon Baker lead the Governors offensive charge in conference play, each averaging 10.2 points per game, with Alexander shooting 47.1 percent from the floor. Keisha Gregory continues to attack the boards, pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game in conference play.
The Governors have gotten a lift off the bench from junior transfer Michaela Campbell, who is averaging 9.7 points per game.
Campbell has scored in double digits in three of the last four games, including a career high 19-point outing against Tennessee Tech, as she led the Governors third-quarter comeback.
The Govs are shooting 40.3 percent from the floor, averaging 63.8 points per game, while pulling down 32.0 rebounds and dishing out 11.1 assists.
The Governors active defense is averaging eight steals per game and forcing 17.3 turnovers against conference opponents.
The Govs are facing a Tigers team that is 1-5 in Ohio Valley Conference play, but have played well at home, picking up all three wins of the season in the Gentry Center.
