Clarksville-Montgomery County School System January 2018 Points of Pride

Montgomery County, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County School System students representing Tennessee as nominees for the National U.S. Presidential Scholars Program include: Hunter Silverstrim, Northwest High School; Navarone Dupont, Northeast High School; and from Kenwood High School, Marzell Norris and Aubrey Doll, for Career Technical Education.

Their information has been submitted to the U.S. Department of Education and a representative will interview each of them. Finalist selections for the program will be announced in February and winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. in June 2018.

Marzell Norris also recently was selected 2017 Tennessee Titans Radio Student Broadcaster of the Year. He was presented a plaque live during the Titans Radio Pregame Show where he met Mike Keith, Dave McGinnis, Rhett Bryan, Hunter Rice, and Mark Howard.

Marzell was given four tickets to the Titans vs. Jaguars game. He brought his A/V Production peer Keona Boykin, his A/V Production teacher Mandy Kelly and her daughter.

Marzell also received a gift card for the Titans Locker Room and he and his guests were able to welcome the Titans football players in the tunnel before being escorted to their club level seats.

He won the contest by submitting an example of play-by-play announcing, as well as a recommendation from his A/V Production teacher.

Clarksville-Montgomery County School System continues to see academic success for its students. The Tennessee Department of Education recognized nine CMCSS schools as “Reward Schools” for exceptional gains made in academic growth or achievement.

Reward schools for performance include: Middle College at APSU; Hazelwood Elementary School. Reward schools for progress include: Barksdale Elementary School, Byrns Darden Elementary School; Glenellen Elementary School; Liberty Elementary School; New Providence Middle School; and, Northwest High School. East Montgomery Elementary School was named a reward school for performance and progress.

On the morning of November 2nd, Brittani Sigears was at the wheel of CMCSS Bus 01-104, picking up Montgomery Central High School and Montgomery Central Middle School students on Southside Road. The bus was a substitute for her regular bus, 806, which had been damaged the previous day by impact with a deer.

Ms. Sigears began to smell smoke coming from the bus so she immediately pulled over and calmly began evacuating the 20 students from the vehicle. As she and students looked on, they saw the bus on which they were just riding become fully engulfed in flames.

Thanks to her following safety training protocols and her calm, collected demeanor, all students were safe.
