APSU Men's GolfClarksville, TN – With impending weather in the middle Tennessee area, the timing could not be more perfect for Austin Peay State University men’s golf to take off for the sunny shores of Savannah, Georgia for the Invitational at Savannah Harbor, hosted by William & Mary.

The two-day event kicks off with 36 holes, Saturday, on the 7,287-yard par-72 track, wrapping up with 18 more on Sunday.

The tournament is packed with talent from around the southeast; in addition to the Govs, the Ohio Valley Conference will be represented by Belmont and Tennessee Tech, with Bethune-Cookman, Brown, Butler, Florida A&M, Fort Wayne, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota State, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, Savannah State, USC-Beaufort, Valparaiso and the host Tribe set to round out the field.

Two talented freshmen and a trio of sophomores lead a young but talented group into the spring’s first tournament. Slotting into the top spot in the lineup will be sophomore Michael Busse; he didn’t make the trip to Savannah Harbor last season but ended his fall on a high note at the MTSU Intercollegiate with a 149, tying for 14th with this week’s No. 4, Austin Lancaster. A Hendersonville native, Lancaster fired a final-round 73 last season in this event.

Another Gov who played Savannah Harbor particularly well last season was sophomore Alex Vegh, who enjoyed his first career top-10 with an eighth-place finish thanks to four final-round birdies, putting him at one-under par for the tournament.

Freshmen Chase Korte and Jay Fox round out the lineup for the Govs this week. Korte dominated the fall slate for Austin Peay, ending with a top-five finish in the fall’s final tournament at Old Fort. Fox also closed strong in Murfreesboro back in October, carding a final-round 73 to send him into the break on a high note.

Live scoring will be provided on course via BirdieFire.com, with a complete recap available at the end of each day of competition on LetsGoPeay.com.
