The Govs enter the regular season’s final week needing wins not to get into the tournament, but for seeding purposes.

A victory would lock up a top-four seed and opening round bye for the Governors.

Saturday closes out the regular season for Austin Peay in one of the campaign’s biggest matchups, a 7:00pm, Senior Night tilt against archrival Murray State.

About the SIU Edwardsville Cougars

SIU Edwardsville CougarsThe Cougars are fighting for their first OVC Tournament appearance under third-year head coach Jon Harris. Behind Jalen Henry–the seventh-ranked scorer in the OVC–the Cougars have scored some significant upsets this season, taking down Tennessee State, January 13th, and Jacksonville State, February 3rd, both at the Vadalabene Center.

SIU Edwardsville’s trouble has been on the defensive end, where the Cougars are allowing 79.6 ppg on 47.9 percent shooting, both marks last in the OVC. Henry and David McFarland both missed the first contest against the Govs; that duo has led the Cougars in scoring during OVC play at 15.1 ppg and 11.0 ppg, respectively.

Last Time Out Against SIU Edwardsville

Behind Averyl Ugba (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Terry Taylor (19 points, 11 rebounds), Austin Peay controlled every facet of the Governors 78-58 conference-opening win against SIU Edwardsville, December 28th, in the Dunn Center. Austin Peay controlled the interior, outscoring the Cougars 48-27 in the paint.

Notably

A win would give the Govs a top-four seed and a bye into the quarterfinals of the OVC Tournament.

Taylor needs 29 points to pass Sam Drummer (1975-76) for fourth all-time in single-season scoring by a freshman.

A win would guarantee the Govs a winning record under first-year head coach Matt Figger.

A win would give the Govs seven in a row against SIU Edwardsville.

Taylor and Ugba are one of four duos shooting 55 percent or better from the floor this season, including Texas A&M (Robert Williams, Tyler Davis), UNLV (Brandon McCoy, Shakur Juiston) and Duke (Marvin Bagley III, Wendell Carter Jr.).

A win would guarantee the Govs a third consecutive February above .500.

Austin Peay’s bench unit is averaging 23.0 ppg over the last five contests, led by junior Zach Glotta (13.2 ppg).
