APSU Women's BasketballBrentwood, TN – With the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament on the horizon, Governors’ guard Brianne Alexander was named to the All-OVC First-Team.

Alexander has stepped up for the Govs both on an off the court this season, filling a void down low and instilling her veteran leadership into a young Governors’ squad.

As a junior, Alexander played in 27 games and was one of only two players to shoot over 50.0 percent from floor for the season.

Alexander has worked tirelessly in the post for the Governors over her four-year career that will culminate with her fourth-straight OVC Tournament appearance. She is the only Governor to play in all four tournament games in Austin Peay’s post season streak, scoring 25 points and pulling down eight rebounds.

Alexander started all 29 games of the 2017-18 regular season, and her versatile offense has become a hallmark of consistency for the Governors, twice posting career nights on the road. Alexander scored 23 points and pulled down five rebounds as Austin Peay took the regular season champs, Belmont, to the wire. Alexander then halted the Govs two game skid with a 26-point effort at Southeast Missouri that gave Austin Peay the season sweep of the Redhawks.

Alexander’s strength and determination have pushed the Govs to their most prolific season since 2003-04, and when Austin Peay tips off against SIU Edwardsville 3:00pm, Thursday, Alexander will suit up in the red-and-white for the 100th time in her career. While the Govs aren’t finished yet as the look to make a run in the OVC tournament, Alexander’s accomplishments add another drop of motivation in the Governors prep for Thursday’s showdown.
