Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Police Department recently received accreditation by the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police through its Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.
The program requires police departments complete a three-phase process, including review by the independent reviewing authority, in addition to meeting 160 standards.
According to Michael Kasitz, APSU police chief, the process was rigorous but instrumental in identifying processes and protocols that could be improved.
“The process made us thoroughly review and make several changes to our General Orders (policies) in addition to changing some of our practices,” he said. “We went through a stringent assessment to ensure not only that we had policy in place, but that we were adhering to those policies.”
The department will seek re-accreditation every three years.
