APSU Baseball takes down Murray State, 10-2

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Center fielder Imani Willis hit his season’s second grand slam and Austin Peay State University’s baseball team rolled to a 10-2 victory against Murray State in the opening game of their three-game Ohio Valley Conference series.

After Murray State (10-8, 2-2 OVC) grabbed a two-run lead in the top of the first, Austin Peay saw its first four batters in the bottom of the frame reach base, left fielder Andrew Flaherty batting in the first run on an infield single.

Nashville Predators clinch playoff berth with win over Colorado Avalanche 4-2

 

Nashville PredatorsClarksville, TN – The Nashville Predators became the first NHL team to clinch a playoff berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 4-2 road win over the Colorado Avalanche tonight.

Colton Sissons and Filip Forsberg had two goals each to lead the Predators to the victory.  This is the fourth straight 20 goal season for Forsberg and the fourth straight playoff appearance for Nashville. 

Juuse Saros provided the backstop for Nashville tonight, stopping 33 shots on goal.

Sissons started the scoring for the Predators at 17:26 of the first period on a wrist shot that beat Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov for the early 1-0 lead.  Sissons was assisted on the goal by P K Subban and Craig Smith.

APSU SoftballMacon,GA – The streaking Austin Peay State University softball team ran its current win streak to seven games, Friday at Sikes Field, winning both of its opening games at the Mercer Bears Classic – defeating Bucknell in its morning contest, 4-3, and host Mercer in its afternoon tilt, 7-1.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Reminds Motorists to Make Safe Choices During the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday

 

Tennessee Highway Patrol - THPNashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reminds motorists to buckle up and drive sober during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. 

State troopers will utilize traffic safety enforcement tools including saturation patrols and sobriety and seat belt checkpoints, to help reduce serious injury and fatal crashes during the holiday weekend. 

The St. Patrick’s Day holiday enforcement period starts at midnight, Saturday, March 17th, and ends on March 18th at 11:59pm.

APSU Women’s Basketball beats Tennessee State, Extends Winning Streak to Three

APSU Women's TennisClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches as they defeated Tennessee State, 5-2, Friday, at the Governors Tennis Courts.

The Govs (4-5) got a big boost at Claudia Yanes Garcia returned to the court for the Ohio Valley Conference opener, although she only played in doubles and additionally played with her non-dominant left hand.

APSU Beach Volleyball falls to Tulane at Blazer Beach Duals

APSU Women's VolleyballBirmingham, AL – Austin Peay State University beach volleyball team opened the Blazer Beach Duals against the Tulane Green Wave, Friday.

The Govs struggled to find a rhythm against Tulane, with Jenna Panning and Brooke Moore nearly stealing a set from the number two pairing, but the Governors were unable to win a set against the Green Wave, falling 5-0.

Clarksville Police report Barricaded Suspect on Big Sky Drive turns into Officer Involved Shooting

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Clarksville Police report that the barricaded suspect situation on Big Sky Drive became a police-involved shooting shortly after 3:00pm. The suspect is deceased. There are no other injuries.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been requested to conduct the shooting investigation. TBI agents are on the scene. There is no danger to the public. TBI Public Information Officer Josh Devine intends to give a statement at the scene some time after 6:00pm.

Tennessee Lady Vols easily handle Liberty, 100-60

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 12/13-ranked Tennessee soared past Liberty, 100-60, as the No. 3 seed Lady Vols scored their highest point total in an NCAA Tournament game since 2006 when they defeated Army, 102-54.  

Rennia Davis led UT (25-7) with 18 points and 11 rebounds, marking her ninth career double-double and tying her with Tamika Catchings for the fifth most double-doubles ever recorded by a UT freshman. Redshirt junior Cheridene Green also posted a double-double, the second of her career, with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

No. 14 seed Liberty (24-10), which hadn’t surrendered 100 points in a game since the Lady Vols defeated them 102-58 in the 1998 NCAA First Round, was led in scoring by Lela Sellers and Ola Makurat, each with 13 points.

City of Clarksville Tylertown Road plans draws large crowd

 

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – More than 150 residents turned out Thursday evening to hear about the City’s plan to improve and widen Tylertown Raod and Oakland Road in Northeast Clarksville.

The proposal calls for Tylertown Road to be widened from Trenton Road to the City limits just past Oakland Road, and Oakland will be widened from Tylertown Road to Spring Creek.

TDOT Commissioner John Schroer Breaks Ground on State Route 13 and State Route 149 Widening Project in Montgomery County

 

Tennessee Department of Transportation - TDOTClarksville, TN – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer joined state and local officials in Clarksville today to break ground on a project to widen State Route 13 and State Route 149.

The 3-mile, $65 million project will widen the roadway to five lanes on SR 149 from River Road to SR 13, and SR 13 from SR 149 to Zinc Plant Road. The project includes a new four-lane bridge over the Cumberland River to replace the two-lane McClure bridge.
