APSU Women's GolfSorrento, FL – A top-five showing from junior Reagan Greene led Austin Peay State University to a solid opening-round outing at Morehead State’s Citrus Challenge at RedTail Golf Club.

The Govs sit just one shot outside the top five, tied with SCAD-Savannah at 312 for sixth, behind High Point and Morehead State.

Florida Gulf Coast’s 297 leads the way, followed by Keiser University (302) and Murray State (306).

“There were a lot of positives to take from today,” said interim head coach Amy McCollum. “We’re very close to playing really good golf. We’ve been hitting great and making good decisions off the tee. We just didn’t get the putts to fall today.”

Austin Peay got a tremendous opening round Greene, who shot a 74 to tie for fifth in the opening round of play; included in that was a team-high three birdies and a 4.20 stroke average on par-4 attempts, tied for fourth across the tournament.

Just outside the top-10 sits junior Ashton Goodley, who fired a 76 to open play. The Eldorado, Illinois native leads the tournament after the first round with 14 pars.

“Both Reagan and Ashton played much more relaxed and confident today, and that showed in their scores,” McCollum said.

In third for the Govs and tied for 36th overall was sophomore Meghann Stamps, who fired an opening-round 80; she’s two shots up on senior AnnaMichelle Moore (82, t-48th) and three ahead of junior Taylor Goodley (83, t-58th) with 36 holes remaining.

The Govs return to action Monday for another 18 holes at RedTail. They’ll be paired with Western Illinois and Siena, teeing off on Hole No. 1 at 7:30am (CT).
