Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam Proposes $30 Million for School Safety

 

Tennessee Governor’s Fiscal Year 2018-19 Budget Amendment Also Includes Additional Improvements for Broadband, Higher Education and Treatment for Opioid Addiction

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam today proposed $30 million to improve school safety across the state in the amendment to the fiscal year 2018-19 budget proposal to be considered by the Tennessee General Assembly in the coming weeks.

The funding includes $25 million in nonrecurring and $5.2 million in recurring school safety grants.

APSU Women’s Golf finishes fourth at rainy Citrus Challenge

APSU Women's GolfSorrento, FL – Weather conspired to drown out the final day of competition at the Citrus Challenge, hosted by Morehead State at Red Tails Golf Club.

With Taylor Goodley, AnnaMichelle Moore and Meghann Stamps finishing their rounds before dark yesterday, the Govs actually were one of few teams to finish all three rounds, but the final was for naught as not all teams were as fortunate as the Govs.

Nashville Zoo to host History Program

 

Nashville ZooNashville, TN – Nashville Zoo and the Tennessee State Library and Archives will co-host a free program highlighting the history of the property and historic home through a new digital collection on Thursday, April 5th, 2018 at 7:00pm.

The program, which will take place in the Zoo’s Croft Center, will tell the story of how two sisters’ love of animals led to the Zoo’s relocation. The collection includes photographs, letters, oral history audio excerpts, maps, memorabilia and land records.

The home, built in 1810, is one of the oldest residences in Davidson County open to the public.

Austin Peay State University music grad student Hayden Giesseman wins state-wide research competition

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – While an undergraduate at Bowling Green State University, Hayden Giesseman often heard his clarinet professor complain about audition music. Specifically, he didn’t like the outdated pieces musicians are often required to play when auditioning for a spot in an orchestra.

“Someone needs to update these excerpts,” the professor said. “No one plays these pieces anymore.”

AAA reports Gasoline Demand Sets New Record for March as Motorists Pay 25-cents more at Pump compared to last March

 

AAATampa, FL – Consumer gasoline demand is at the highest level on record for March. According to the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest report, demand measured at 9.6 million b/d – levels typical of summer months, not the first quarter of a year.

U.S. exports continue to trend high, accounting for a large chunk of this week’s demand data.

Dodging the Roadkill - A Biker's JourneyClarksville, TN – Attitude!  We’ve all got one.  Our attitude towards our family.  Our attitude towards our faith.  Attitude at work, and on and on.

But our attitude on a motorcycle is quite the different experience. 

I think all of us have an image of who we are as a biker, how we carry ourselves, how we ride, even WHAT we ride, but our attitude as a biker is quite different from our “normal” life.

Or its it?

My attitude starts the moment I decide when and where I’m going to ride.  I think about it the night before, most nights not being able to sleep as well because of it.  I can’t WAIT to throttle up and hit the road.  The anticipation is overwhelming.
