Sorrento, FL – Weather conspired to drown out the final day of competition at the Citrus Challenge, hosted by Morehead State at Red Tails Golf Club.
With Taylor Goodley, AnnaMichelle Moore and Meghann Stamps finishing their rounds before dark yesterday, the Govs actually were one of few teams to finish all three rounds, but the final was for naught as not all teams were as fortunate as the Govs.
“I’m so proud of this team’s ability to fight,” said interim head coach Amy McCollum. “They battled through three rain delays yesterday and fought some tough wind today for their round.”
Overall, Austin Peay finished fourth with a 610 (312-298), one shot behind Murray State and Keiser University; Florida Gulf Coast won the event with a 597, although Austin Peay’s 298 was the best second-round showing by any squad.
But the big mover on Tuesday was junior Reagan Greene, who matched her opening-round 74 to post a 148 and finish tied for second, thanks largely to a shortgame that saw her average par on par-3 holes.
Moore, who was in the clubhouse for round two at the end of play Tuesday, finished tied for 12th (82-71—153), shooting more than 30 spots up the leaderboard. Ashton Goodley, meanwhile, wrapped her round Tuesday morning, posting a 78 for a two (or three)-day 154 (76-78)—she led the Govs with 25 pars for the event.
Sophomore Meghann Stamps (80-77—157; t-28th) and Ashton’s sister Taylor (83-76—159; t-39th) were both in the clubhouse at the conclusion of play yesterday but did not get final positions until Tuesday.
“I’m really happy for Reagan’s second place finish,” McCollum said. “She was solid all week. AnnaMichelle played a great last two rounds. Even though today’s round didn’t count, we really got a lot out of it, which is only going to help us this weekend in Illinois.”
The Govs will have a quick turnaround to get prepared for the Saluki Invitational, March 25th-26th, at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Illinois.
