Richmond, KY – Weather dropped the Colonel Classic to a two-day, 36-hole event, with Austin Peay State University women’s golf in position to move up over the final 18 holes, Saturday.
An opening-round 308 finds the Govs in ninth, but less than 10 shots separates the Govs from third-place Eastern Kentucky. Last season, the Govs dropped five shots from Round One to Round Two, which could help the Govs return to top-five standing.
Two Govs sit comfortably inside the top-20 after Day One, with juniors Reagan Greene (74) and Ashton Goodley (75) tied for 10th and 15th, respectively. Both shot even par on the front nine, with Greene leading the Govs in par-4 (4.00/hole) scoring and Goodley tied for the tournament lead in par-5 (4.75/hole) scoring.
Sophomore Meghann Stamps posted 14 pars over the first 18 holes, shooting a five-over 77 to sit tied for 29th. Senior AnnaMichelle Moore (82) and junior Taylor Goodley (83) are tied for 69th and 74th, respectively.
“The conditions played extremely tough with the cold and the rain today,” said interim head coach Amy McCollum. “We battled the entire day, just had a couple of big numbers and a couple of bad breaks which hurt us. We’re looking forward to getting back out and moving up the leaderboard tomorrow.”
Final-round action begins 9:00am, Saturday, at the University Club at Arlington; the Govs will be paired with Ball State and Toledo, kicking off on Holes No. 6-9.
