APSU Softball’s Danielle Liermann makes history with second adidas® OVC Player of the Week honor

APSU SoftballBrentwood, TN – Junior third baseman Danielle Liermann made history on Monday, joining Austin Peay State University Athletics Hall of Fame member Andrea Miller as the only two Governors to earn adidas® OVC Softball Player of the Week honors twice in the same season, as announced by the conference office.

Miller (1993-96) earned her two OVC Softball Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks to open April 1994.

Liermann also joins Miller, Amanda Travis (1996-99) and Brianna Venable (2003-06) as the only APSU softball players to earn the honor at least twice in their career. Miller won it a record three times in her career.

The Simi Valley, CA, native recorded hits in all four games this past week, getting on base nine of 14 times overall, as Govs went 3-1 and is off to its best start in OVC play in the program’s history (5-1).

Liermann accounted for three of the first four runs scored vs. Eastern Kentucky, in the Game 2 win, Monday, singling and scoring in first inning then hitting a 2-run homer in third inning. She finished game with three hits and three RBIs.

In Tennessee Tech doubleheader, Friday, had two hits in Game 1, then hit her OVC-leading 13th home run of the year in her first at bat of Game 2 to give the Govs the lead for good.

Overall on the week, she led the Govs in batting average (.583), slugging percentage (1.083), on-base percentage (.643), runs scored (3), home runs (2) and RBIs (4).

Liermann’s selection is the 17th time in the program’s history that an Austin Peay softball player has been selected OVC Player of the Week honors, while also marking a record-breaking fourth time this season the Govs have taken home a weekly OVC honor – with Liermann’s two Player of the Week nods (March 5th/April 2nd) and Morgan Rackel (March 12th) and Kelly Mardones (March 19th) winning Pitcher of the Week honors.
